EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases the Greek wind gods, known as Anemoi, from an original edition found in the archives. The image is sourced from "Illustrierte Mythologie" by Spamer in 1879, offering a glimpse into ancient Greek religion and myth. Each god represents a specific wind direction and carries its own symbolism. Boreas, the god of the north wind and winter, exudes power and coldness with his presence. Eurus embodies the unfortunate east or southeast winds, casting an air of unpredictability. Notus personifies the warm south wind, bringing a sense of vitality and change. Zephyrus stands as the gentle west wind deity, symbolizing calmness and tranquility. The lesser-known deities are equally intriguing: Aparctias represents another name for the north wind; Apheliotes presides over the east wind when it leans towards southeast; Argestes is associated with either west or northwest winds; Caicias governs the northeast winds; Circios or Thraskias rules over north-northwest gusts; Euronotus commands southeastern breezes; Lips oversees southwest winds while Skeiron reigns supreme over northwest drafts. Grafissimo's expertly captured photograph beautifully captures these divine figures' essence while preserving their historical significance. This stunning piece serves as both an artistic masterpiece and a window into ancient mythology—an ideal addition to any art enthusiast's collection.
