The Main A30 looking west, with the junction for temple on the left. Note two telegraph poles and lines on the right. This junction is much altered by the dualling of the A30 and is replaced by a bridged cutting for the dualled A30. Hawkstor China Clay Works (Disused) is off the picture to the right. EDITORS COMMENTS
This print captures a nostalgic glimpse of the Main A30 in Bodmin Moor, Cornwall, back in 1967. The image showcases the road looking west, with the junction for Temple prominently featured on the left. As you take in this snapshot from the past, your eyes are drawn to two telegraph poles and lines gracefully lining the right side of the frame. It's fascinating to note that this particular junction has undergone significant changes over time due to the dualling of the A30. Today, it has been replaced by a bridged cutting for the dualled A30, making this photograph even more precious as a historical record. Although not visible within this picture, Hawkstor China Clay Works (now disused) lies just off to the right. This detail adds an extra layer of intrigue and invites us to imagine what life was like during that era when such industries thrived in Cornwall. The talented photographer behind this remarkable shot is Charles Woolf. His keen eye for capturing everyday scenes with artistic flair shines through in every aspect of this composition. Displayed at Royal Cornwall Museum as part of their Cornish collection curated by Joyce Greenham (not affiliated with any company), this evocative print offers viewers a chance to step back into history and appreciate both its beauty and significance without commercial intentions overshadowing its true essence.
