EDITORS COMMENTS
This breathtaking print captures the ethereal beauty of a double rainbow arching over the iconic Cape Jarvis Lighthouse. Standing tall at the tip of the Fleurieu Peninsula, this historic lighthouse has been guiding ships through the treacherous Backstairs Passage between Kangaroo Island and mainland Australia since its construction in 1871. The Cape Jervis light, with its fixed white light, served as a beacon of hope for sailors until 1927 when it was upgraded to an automatic acetylene system with a revolving light that could be seen from a distance of 14 miles. Manned for over five decades, it played an integral role in ensuring safe passage through St Vincent Gulf. In 1972, this stalwart guardian was replaced by a new tower which now stands proudly alongside the remnants of its predecessor. The present-day lighthouse is identical to another one located in Robe, showcasing their architectural symmetry and historical significance. As if nature itself wanted to pay homage to this maritime marvel, a vibrant double rainbow graces the sky above. This rare phenomenon adds an extra layer of enchantment to an already picturesque scene. Vicki Smith's expert photography skills have captured not only the physical grandeur but also the timeless allure of this remarkable location. With every glance at this mesmerizing print, one can't help but feel captivated by both man-made ingenuity and Mother Nature's awe-inspiring artistry.
