EDITORS COMMENTS
In this photo print, we are transported back to July 1933, witnessing the remarkable journey of aviation pioneers Amy Mollison (formerly Amy Johnson) and her husband Jim Mollison. Their De Havilland DH. 84 Dragon aircraft named Seafarer took flight from Pendine Sands in South Wales with an audacious goal - crossing the vast Atlantic Ocean nonstop, destined for Floyd Bennett Field in Brooklyn, New York. However, fate had a different plan for them as their aircraft ran out of fuel mid-flight. With great skill and courage, they crash-landed at Bridgeport Municipal Airport in Stratford, Connecticut. Both Amy and Jim suffered injuries but remained undeterred by this setback. Captured within this image is a moment of gratitude as Amy Mollison addresses the crowd that gathered to welcome them before their daring transatlantic flight began. Her expression reflects both relief and determination after surviving such a perilous adventure. This photograph not only immortalizes the bravery of these aviation heroes but also serves as a testament to their unwavering spirit amidst adversity. It stands as a symbol of human resilience and the relentless pursuit of pushing boundaries in transportation history. As we gaze upon this snapshot frozen in time, we are reminded of the incredible feats achieved during those pioneering years – where speed records were shattered and new frontiers conquered by individuals who dared to dream big.
