EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases the magnificent frescoes of Villa Stati-Mattei, a true masterpiece transferred onto paper by Artokoloro. The image captures the essence of these stunning frescoes, measuring an impressive 12 7/8 x 12 7/8 feet (327 x 327 cm), which adorn the walls of this historic Italian villa. Painted by the talented Baldassare Tommaso Peruzzi in Ancaiano between 1481 and 1536, these detached frescoes were later relocated to Rome in 1856. They found their new home in the loggia on Palatine Hill, where they still stand today as a testament to Peruzzi's artistic genius. The composition is a harmonious blend of various elements, including signs of the zodiac, Apollo and Minerva figures, and six muses. These vibrant scenes decorate the ceiling of an open loggia built by Paolo Stati and his son Cristoforo during their ownership. As we gaze upon this remarkable photograph print from Liszt Collection, we are transported back in time to witness firsthand the grandeur and beauty that once graced Villa Stati-Mattei. It serves as a reminder of how art has transcended centuries to captivate our hearts with its timeless allure.
