EDITORS COMMENTS
This stunning print captures the breathtaking beauty of the Valley of the Kuragan River, a right tributary of the Katun River, in the vicinity of Belukha Mountain. Taken between 1911-1913 by Sergei Ivanovich Borisov during his expedition in the Altay Mountains, this image is part of a collection of color postcards showcasing the natural wonders and indigenous peoples of southern Siberia.
Borisov's passion for exploration and photography led him to capture over 1,500 photographs during his time in the Altay Mountains. Upon his return to Barnaul, he shared these mesmerizing images with the public using a magic lantern. The photos offer a glimpse into remote corners of the Altay Mountains and depict scenes of unparalleled beauty.
In this particular photograph, we see a lone figure seated amidst towering mountains and lush greenery. The snow-capped peaks in the background create a striking contrast against the vibrant colors of nature below. The river winds its way through rocky terrain, adding to the rugged charm of this untamed landscape.
As we gaze upon this image, we are transported to a world untouched by time - where nature reigns supreme and man is but a small speck in its vast expanse. Borisov's work serves as both an artistic masterpiece and an invaluable historical record of Siberia's wild frontier.
