These are the smallest of the worlds 7 species of fur seals with males only reaching 65-80kg s. They are found mostly in the upwelling zones in the west of the archipelago. They are usually quite solitary and avoid body contact with other fur seals, preferring to be in the shady lava crevices. They are nocturnal feeders and thus have very large eyes and good nocturnal vision.
