Cooper Creek Turtle, Longreach QLD

This Cooper Creek Short-necked Turtle wandered into my backyard in Longreach, QLD. I took some photos before I released him back into the Thomson River. This is the largest sub-species of Emydura with adults having shell lengths well over 40cm. This species is named after local grazier Angus Emmott who lodged the type specimens

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print captures the essence of the Cooper Creek Turtle, a majestic creature that found its way into my backyard in Longreach, QLD. As I marveled at its beauty, I couldn't resist capturing this moment on camera before releasing it back into the Thomson River. The Cooper Creek Turtle is truly a remarkable species, known for its impressive size with adults boasting shell lengths well over 40cm. It belongs to the Emydura sub-species and was named after local grazier Angus Emmott who played a crucial role in documenting and preserving these turtles. In this photograph, you can see the turtle gracefully perched on a rock object amidst an enchanting natural setting. The vibrant colors of Australia's outback are brought to life as the turtle basks under a dramatic sky filled with clouds. Its reflection glistens on the calm river surface below. This image perfectly encapsulates both the tranquility and wildness of nature. With no people present, it highlights how animals thrive in their natural habitat without human interference. Henry Cook has skillfully captured this moment with his photography expertise, allowing us to appreciate not only the beauty of this particular turtle but also reminding us of our responsibility to protect and preserve wildlife like him for future generations to admire and cherish.
