Antler Antlers Buck Bucks Courtship Deer Rutting Stag Stags

Caught in the Act - The Stag Showdown of the Century!

EDITORS COMMENTS
. In this photo print, witness the intense battle for dominance as two majestic Red Deer stags lock antlers during rutting season. These second largest European deer boast antlers up to a whopping 71 cm long, making their showdowns an awe-inspiring spectacle. While these magnificent creatures can adapt to various habitats like woodlands, grasslands, moors, and scrubs, they prefer to strut their stuff at woodland edges or in open grassy areas. During rutting season from September to November, male stags fiercely defend their harem of females and young against any challengers. But don't be fooled by their tough exterior! The rest of the year sees adult males and females leading separate lives until mating time rolls around again. It's all about maintaining peace in the herd! Come late May-June, adorable little fawns make their debut into the world under the watchful eye of dedicated mothers. Parental care falls solely on female shoulders with weaning occurring between 6-10 months. With numbers steadily increasing across Europe and thriving populations found in Germany and Spain, it's clear that these stunning creatures are here to stay! So hang this incredible wildlife snapshot by John Cancalosi on your wall and let nature's drama unfold right before your eyes!
